Ar-Pharazôn was a Númenórean and the last King of Númenor in the Second Age. Initially a self-styled rival of Sauron, he later became his unwitting ally.

In the twilight years of his realm, the King began to expand his borders to Middle-earth, seeking to compete with the Dark Lord himself. When Sauron came forth, seemingly for parley and surrender, Ar-Pharazôn took him prisoner and returned with him to Númenor. Beguiled by the Deceiver, the King and his followers gave into their greed and pride and turned towards a darker path, that would the destruction of their homeland and the end of their civilization.
