The Army of Angmar was a massive force of Orcs, hill-men of Rhudaur and other fell things once commanded by the dreaded Witch-king of Angmar, a deputy of the then-hidden Sauron. The host was purposed by the splintering and destruction of the neighboring kingdom of Arnor, one of the two Dúnedain realms that stood in the way of the strengthening hold of his master over the northern and western lands. Through a bloody and long-lasting conflict Angmar tore down the fractured Arnor, but was in turn brought to ruin by the united forces of Gondor, Lindon, Rivendell and their allies.
Centuries later, the army of Angmar would begin to rise anew helmed by the cruel Agandaûr, another emissary of Sauron's will. With Arnor no more, these forces were assembled for the Enemy's campaign in the North to suborn Rivendell, Lothlórien and perhaps even the Shire and bring them all under his sway.

Agandaûr's Blade[]
What little remained of the forces of Angmar was scattered throughout the north, no longer a major threat to the Free Peoples of Middle-earth. The evil creatures, mostly Orcs, still left in Gundabad would in time form their own army and bring trouble to the Dwarves of Erebor in both the War of the Dwarves and Orcs and the famous Battle of Five Armies under the leadership of the Orc-king Azog and his spawn Bolg, even though both conflicts had disastrous outcomes for the denizens of Gundabad and Sauron's plans for the North.
Only when Agandaûr came and took the sacked Carn Dûm to be his dwelling were the remnants of Angmar's host slowly reforged into an army, though not as mighty as it had been under the dominion of the Witch-king. A large portion of these forces were gathered amidst the ruins of Fornost, to potentially join the Nazgûl in the hunt for the One Ring, but were cut off from the rest and reduced to squabbling war-bands once Agandaûr was ousted from the citadel. Attempts to increase the numbers of his army in the Ettenmoors with the help of Bargrisar and later at Gundabad were foiled, however, persuading the cruel sorcerer to try recruit a fire-breathing Dragon to his side. The host of Angmar assaulted the city of Nordinbad, as Agandaûr had promised it as the prize of Urgost if he accepted his offer of an alliance, though the army was pushed back after much fighting. With the eventual defeat of both Agandaûr and his Lord Sauron the army of Angmar left in Carn Dûm was finally dispersed for good.
