Arwen was a female Peredhil of royal descent and the daughter of Elrond. She would give up her immortality to stay in Middle-earth and marry the love of her life Aragorn.

History[]

Early life[]

Arwen was the daughter of Celebrian and Elrond. Through her father, Arwen was a descendant of Luthien, an Elven maiden who forsook her immortality for the mortal Beren. Arwen would spend much of her days in Lothlórien with her mother before Celebrian left for the Undying Lands. In Lothlórien she met Aragorn for the first time and sensed something special about him. Twenty-nine years later, Aragorn returned after engaging in perilous missions near Mordor and Arwen confessed her love to him.[1]

Flight to the ford[]

"If you want him, come and claim him!" Arwen challenges the Ringwraiths

Arwen rode rode out to find Aragorn and the Hobbits. She happened upon Aragorn while he was off guard and lightly teased him for it. Arwen was then taken to Frodo, who had been wounded by a Morgul shaft. Knowing that only her father could save him, Arwen has Frodo placed on her horse, Asfaloth.

Aragorn wished to escort him, but Arwen assured him that she was faster and does not fear the wraiths. Arwen bore Frodo away. Within the next few hours, Arwen was tracked down by the ringwraiths. Arwen and her horse outran them and she finally reached the Fords of the River Bruinen.

Once she crossed the river, she turned to face the wraiths, who were reluctant to touch the enchanted water. The Witch-King demanded her to hand over Frodo. An enraged Arwen drew her sword against them and dared them to try and take him. The Ringwraiths drew their own swords and started into the water. Arwen then spoke words of power to the enchanted river and a raging torrent of water flooded the valley. The foaming water, shaped like great horses, drowned the Ringwraiths and their steeds.

  • Limited foresight - She sees a vision of her son Eldarion in the distant future.
  • Skilled horsewoman - Arwen was able to outrun and outmaneuver the Ringwraiths while riding on Asfaloth.
  • Fencing skills - Arwen is known to wielded Hadhafang once. When she took to the field alongside her father, she used a different blade.[3]
