The Black Hand of Sauron or just the Black Hand was one of Sauron's Black Captains during the early Third Age. He murdered the ranger Talion, his wife and his son in a ritual to summon the spirit of the elf-lord Celebrimbor. Instead of going into the Black Hand, Celebrimbor entered the body of Talion and the two became the "Bright Lord", vowing to kill the Black Hand. He was finally killed in another attempt to get the elf-spirit for Sauron. He served as Sauron's second in command until his death and the Witch King took a more primary role in Mordor's hierarchy.
