A Cave Troll lived in Moria during the War of the Ring and faced off against the Fellowship of the Ring in the Chamber of Mazarbul. It was killed by Legolas during the skirmish.
History[]
"They have a Cave Troll" - Boromir
Sometime during or prior to the War of the Ring, the Cave Troll was bred and ended up in the halls of Khazad-Dûm. It was controlled by the Goblins of Moria as their weapon.[1]
When the Fellowship of the Ring entered Moria during their quest, they realised that the Dwarf kingdom had been overrun by Goblins. Upon entering the Chamber of Marzarbul, they were attacked by the Moria Orcs. As the orcs approached, Boromir peered out the door and saw the Troll approaching, warning the rest of the company of its presence. The Troll burst in through the doorway and the various members of the Fellowship battled it. It tried to kill Frodo Baggins and used a spear to stab the ring-bearer but the Hobbit was unharmed due to his Mithril coat. Merry and Pippin jumped on the Troll's head and when it lifted its head up to try and get them off, Legolas shot an arrow up and through its throat and brain, killing the creature.[1]
