Celebrimbor was an Elf Lord who ruled in Eregion during the Second Age. He was responsible for helping Sauron forge the Rings of Power. In secret, he forged the three Elven rings and along with his family he was taken captive by Sauron. Sauron had him help in the forging of the One Ring to rule all the other rings but Celebrimbor was fast and took the ring as soon as it was made, using it to conjure an army of Uruks. The Ring betrayed Celebrimbor and fell to Sauron during their next battle and Celebrimbor and his family were executed in Mordor.

Celebrimbor was summoned as a spirit when the Black Hand of Sauron and his men used Black Magic to conjure him. He went into the Ranger Talion's body and the pair teamed up to fight the Black Hand and get revenge. After the defeat of the Black Captains, Celebrimbor and Talion fought and protected Gondor from within Mordor. Celebrimbor eventually abandoned Talion to die when given a chance to take on Sauron with Eltariel as his host but they failed and he was merged with Sauron, becoming the Great Eye. Following the War of the Ring, the One Ring was destroyed at Mount Doom and Sauron was defeated. This allowed Celebrimbor to escape into the east.
