Dale Guards were the security force in city of Dale. They were armed with bows and swords.

History

The guards were present when Smaug attacked Dale, led by Girion they shot arrows at the dragon.

Behind the Scenes

WETA designer Paul Tobin states that the "soldiers of Dale" were influenced by the designs of the Rohirrim from The Lord of the Rings trilogy. It was his understanding that that the two cultures may have shared common ancestors. He also stated that the helmet design was changed fairly late in the process to something more akin to the Gondorians, with a band of fur encircling to closer resemble the Lake-town Guards.
