Freca was the Lord of the West-march[1] during the reign of King Helm Hammerhand in Rohan. Claiming descent from King Fréawine, in spite of his obvious Dunlendish heritage, he grew to become a wealthy and powerful lord who paid little heed to his liege, not even bothering to attend the royal council.[1] Ever greedy, Freca eventually proposed an arranged marriage between his own son, Wulf, and Helm's daughter, Héra. Although he pretended that the offer's purpose was to strengthen the kingdom, Helm understood that Freca was making a play for the throne. In the ensuing brawl, Freca was killed by Helm, ultimately leading to a war between Rohan and Dunland.
