Grishnákh was the captain of a Mordor Orc warband, acting as an agent of Sauron. A hunchbacked crook-legged Morgul Orc, Grishnákh was a trusted Orc captain, carrying out instructions coming from Sauron himself. One of his chief tasks was the retrieval of his master's prize, the Ruling Ring, which was currently in the hands of a Hobbit.
History[]
Grishnakh was tasked by his master with helping the Uruk-hai Scouts on their journey back to Isengard. When the orcs stopped near a narrow valley, Grishnakh appeared and demanded answers for the delay. Uglúk responded by telling him that he would be the one to deliver the hobbits to Saruman.
Later, when Snaga and Mauhûr grew hungry, the orcs began arguing among themselves about what to eat. Grishnakh suggested that the captives were good enough, but Uglúk reminded the captain about their duty to their master. The orc asked why did they need the two alive and the Uruk revealed that they had something their lord Sauron wanted for the War of the Ring. Snaga attempted however to kill the hobbits, before being beheaded and devoured by his comrades. The group was ambushed immediately after that, right next to Fangorn Forest, thus Meriadoc Brandybuck and Peregrin Took were able to escape their captors. They were pursued by Grishnakh before he was crushed under the foot of Treebeard.
