Hunter Orcs were Orc raiders and marauders from the Misty Mountains, mainly hailing from Gundabad and Moria. They were tasked by Sauron with hunting down the dwarven company of Thorin Oakenshield. Those orcs who rode Wargs were known as Gundabad Wolf-Riders.
History[]
Some of the orcs from the Misty Mountains in the service of Azog the Defiler were sent to kill Thorin Oakenshield and his company before they reached the Lonely Mountain. The Hunter Orcs pursued the dwarves near the Trollshaws before fleeing from incoming Elven warriors under the command of Lord Elrond. Captain Yazneg and his lieutenant Fimbul returned to their camp at Weathertop where the orc chieftain was left by Azog to be eaten by the hungry Wargs for his failure. The rest of the party followed their quarry to the Pine Forest where the company yet again escaped thanks to the daring intervention of the Great Eagles. After Azog was called to Dol Guldur by Sauron, Bolg joined the hunt. The Orcs tracked Thorin's company just outside of the Forest of Mirkwood ambushing them on the river, killing the Elven guards who were attempting to stop Thorin's company from escaping. Having lost them again, the orcs ultimately tracked the company to Lake-Town, where they found out that they had arrived too late, resulting in Legolas and Tauriel slaying every orc, while Bolg himself fled on his Warg back to Azog.
