Narzug was a Orc who served as a lieutenant to first Azog and then Bolg. He was captured by Legolas and Tauriel and questioned by Thranduil before being beheaded by the Elf King.
History[]
Narzug was bred in Mount Gundabad and was a trained hunter. He became skilled with a bow and arrow and eventually became a Lieutenant under Azog the Defiler.
In the year TA 2940, Azog began his hunt for Thorin Oakenshield and Narzug joined him on this mission. A year later, Thorin and his Company were on a quest to reclaim the kingdom of Erebor and Narzug helped Azog in his plan to stop them and to wipe out the Line of Durin. After the Dwarves crossed the Misty Mountains the hunters attacked them in a pine forest although they were rescued by the Great Eagles.
Narzug followed Azog in his pursuit across the mountains to reach the Carrock, where the company had been dropped off by the Eagles. When their prey entered the house of Beorn the Skin-changer, Azog and his Orc-pack stop and look on from afar as the beast patrolled the area. Narzug walked up to his master and suggested that they killed the "Dwarf-filth" while they slept but Azog decided not to attack while Beorn lay guard as he knew they couldn't win that fight. Azog told Narzug that they would wait until day and kill them on the road. Suddenly, Bolg burst out of the trees, riding his Warg. Bolg told Azog that he was summoned by the Necromancer to Dol Guldur. Narzug traveled with Azog and Bolg to Dol Guldur.
Upon reaching Dol Guldur, Narzug was present when Azog met with the Necromancer who required Azog's presence in the fortress to prepare and lead his armies. Narzug looked on while Azog spoke with their master and then looked in Bolg's direction when Azog called for his son.
Bolg took over the hunt for Thorin Oakenshield and took Narzug with him as a Lieutenant. They went into Mirkwood and discovered that the Dwarves had entered the Woodland Realm. Narzug believed there was no way to get in but Bolg told the Orcs there was another way and to follow him.
Later when Thorin and his company were escaping the Woodland Realm in barrels down the river, Narzug and the other Orcs engaged the Elves and Dwarves. Legolas was standing at the border of the Woodland Realm, watching as the the Dwarves and Orcs continued down river and Narzug saw his opportunity, stringing an arrow to his bow and aiming it at the Elven Prince. He fired the shot but his arrow was intercepted by another arrow shot by Captain Tauriel of the Silvan Guard who attacked Narzug and put a knife to his throat. Legolas told Tauriel to keep Narzug alive as she was about to slit his throat. Narzug was taken back to Thranduil for interrogation.
Legolas held Narzug as Thranduil began to talk. Legolas asked Narzug why they were tracking Thorin and the thirteen Dwarves. Narzug told the Elves that it wasn't thirteen anymore because they had shot Kíli with a Morgul-bow and he wouldn't last much longer. Tauriel was standing nearby and ordered him to answer the question to which Narzug growled that he doesn't answer to dogs. Tauriel unsheathed her knives and told Narzug because he liked death so much he should let her give it to him and with that she charged at him with her knife. Thranduil yelled "Enough!" and ordered Tauriel to leave. Narzug growled and choked as Thranduil told him he didn't care about one dead Dwarf and to answer his question. He promised to set Narzug free if he told them what he knew, asking why he had orders to kill the Dwarves. Narzug grunted that Thorin Oakenshield would never be King under the Mountain. Thranduil suggested that there was no King under the Mountain and nobody would dare enter Erebor due to Smaug's existence. Narzug told the Elven King that he knew nothing of the matter and that the world would burn. Narzug continued to say that the time had come again and that his master served "the One". Thranduil looked at Narzug with concern and the Orc continued, asking if the Elf King understood now that the flames of war were upon them. Thranduil, having heard enough, struck out with his sword and beheaded Narzug, his head still in Legolas' hand and his body shuddering on the floor.
