The Palantír of Dol Guldur was one of the Palantíri that was used by the Necromancer in Dol Guldur during the Third Age.[1]
Behind the Scenes[]
The Palantír was included as a part of the set in Dol Guldur that was used for filming. It was there as part of a planned plot point from when the Hobbit Trilogy was only going to be two films.[2] Gandalf would have found the seeing stone in the fortress during his venture, and he would have had a vision of the Dragon Smaug leading armies of Orcs into battle.[3]
While the Chronicles series by WETA seem to suggest that the stone was only included in the design process[2], a filmed deleted scene exists of Gandalf reaching for it.[1]
Philippa Boyens has stated that she believes the Palantír could only be the Palantír of Minas Ithil.
