Rangers of the Black Gate were northmen and Gondorians that were trained and sent to guard the Black Gate of Mordor during the Third Age. When Sauron returned to Mordor after being banished by Galadriel from Dol Guldur he eventually took control of the Black Gate, his forces killing, enslaving or driving out the rangers.
