The Ringwraith of Forod or The Dwimmerlaik was one of Sauron's Nazgûl. He ruled in Forod before Sauron became his master.

History[]

He was a King of Men in Middle-earth that either was given a Ring of Power by Sauron or inherited it from one of the ringwraiths. He gave his allegiance to Sauron after the power of the One Ring bound his loyalty to the Dark Lord. He participated in Sauron's campaign against Middle-earth during the Second Age and was still active after his defeat during the War of the Last Alliance. The Witch-king of Angmar led a war against the Men of Arnor in the early Third Age and the Ringwraith of Forod possibly took part in this war.

The Nazgûl, including the Ringwraith of Forod, were all slain in the early Third Age and their bodies were buried in the High Fells of Rhudaur where they lay for many years.

Revival[]

Sauron's spirit had survived the end of the Second Age and was growing in power in the fortress of Dol Guldur. Around the year TA 2941, the ringwraiths were revived by Sauron and called to Dol Guldur. There they lay hidden within the spell of concealment.

Battle of Dol Guldur[]

Shortly before the Battle of Five Armies, Gandalf the Grey entered Dol Guldur to investigate the dark power that lay there. He was captured by Sauron and placed in a cage. Sauron's armies of Orcs, led by Azog the Defiler, left the fortress on their way to take the Lonely Mountain and left the Nazgûl as the main defenders of the fortress. The White Council arrived in Dol Guldur to rescue Gandalf and to fight the darkness and the ringwraiths, including the Ringwraith of Forod, engaged them. Galadriel banished Sauron from Dol Guldur and he returned to Mordor with the wraiths.

Legacy[]

The Ringwraith of Forod would go on to serve Sauron during the War of the Ring where he would perish along with his master during the Battle of the Black Gate.
