Skirmish in Lake-town was Bolg's attempt to stop the Company of Thorin Oakenshield from leaving Lake-town for Erebor. When he arrived, only a few Dwarves were still there and the Orcs were forced to engage the Elves, Legolas and Tauriel.
Prelude[]
The Company of Thorin Oakenshield traveled through Mirkwood during their Quest to reclaim Erebor and were captured by the Elves of the Woodland Realm. After escaping King Thranduil's clutches in barrels, they were chased by Bolg and his Hunter Orcs down the river. During the skirmish at the barrel gate, Kíli was shot by a Morgul-bow, wielded by Bolg himself, poisoning his blood. Legolas and Tauriel stopped at the borders of the Woodland Realm as the Orcs and Dwarves continued on but Tauriel would eventually go after the Orcs against the wishes of Thranduil and Legolas would go after her.
After the company managed to reach Lake-town, hiring Bard the Bargeman to smuggle them across the lake, Bolg and the hunters went the long way around in pursuit. By the time the Orcs reached the town, the Company had already left for the Lonely Mountain, save for Bofur, Fíli, Kíli and Óin. Kíli's wound was flared up and was on the verge of death.
The Skirmish[]
The Orcs climbed onto the rooftops of Lake-town and began to look around quietly for the company of Dwarves, not realising they had already left. A group of the Orcs discovered Bofur running around looking for kingsfoil to help with Kíli's wound and focused in that area. They stumbled upon Bard's house and found Óin, Fíli and Kíli there. The Orcs dropped into the house and swarmed in from all of the openings to the main room. Fíli and Óin were taken by surprise and did their best to hold off the Orcs without their weapons as Sigrid and Tilda screamed and ducked under the table. Bofur was attacked near the pig-pen by a single Orc and he lost his balance and fell. They were saved by the arrival of Legolas and Tauriel who had engaged the Orcs outside. An Elf arrow killed the Orc attacking Bofur, who took the kingsfoil back towards the house. Tauriel entered Bard's house through the door, killing Orcs with her twin knives. Legolas lowered himself in through the roof and engaged the Orcs as well. Kíli yelled for Tauriel to toss him one of her knives and she obliged. Kíli took out an Orc but fell to the ground due to his injury. Legolas followed the Orcs onto the balcony where Fimbul had jumped down and told Bolg that Oakenshield had already left. Legolas tipped a Orc victim's body over the balcony onto the other end of the boat Fimbul had jumped onto and the Orc lieutenant hopelessly flew up right into Legolas' knives where he was beheaded. Legolas told Tauriel to follow him and go kill more Orcs and she was reluctant to leave the injured Kíli but ultimately decided to follow her Elf-friend. However, as she was leaving, Bofur arrived with the kingsfoil and she realised she could save the Dwarf.
Legolas continued to run through Lake-town, taking out any Hunter Orcs in his path. Bolg heard Legolas from a distance and told a group of Orcs to send word to Azog that Oakenshield had reached the mountain, taking some minions with him to go deal with the Elf. Legolas eventually found Bolg and unsheathed Orcrist. As he approached the giant Orc, Bolg's minions stepped out and attacked Legolas. Legolas engaged Bolg and his minions, eventually killing the other Orcs. Legolas struggled in his duel with Bolg, getting pushed around and physically bested. Bolg eventually locked Legolas' blade under his arm and they glared at each other for a few seconds. Bolg managed to make Legolas bleed before running off and letting more minions distract him. Legolas looked on as Bolg fled on his warg and he hastily borrowed a horse, chasing after the giant Orc.
Aftermath[]
Legolas would continue to chase Bolg where he met with other Orcs which had the sign of Gundabad. Lake-town was destroyed by Smaug later that night and Legolas returned to the wreckage in the aftermath. Legolas met with Bard the slayer of the Dragon and warned him of what he feared would come in the wake of the Dragon's death. Wary of Gundabad, Legolas took Tauriel, (who had successfully healed Kíli), to Gundabad where they were made aware of Bolg's army which was marching upon Erebor.
