The Torturer of Dol Guldur, or the Great Gundabad Orc Chieftain, was a large Orc chieftain summoned to trustingly serve Sauron in the ruined fortress of Dol Guldur.

History[]

A gruesome chieftain from Mount Gundabad, he followed Azog in the Battle at Azanulbizar, where he fought against the dwarf Dwalin, a skirmish which resulted in him being severely scarred on his head, as well as the subsequent defeat of the orcs. A sturdy warrior, he survived his grievous injuries and covered them with iron plates that held his flesh together, not much unlike Azog.

Summoned to Dol Guldur, he soon earned the favor of Sauron, becoming the keeper of the dungeons tasked with torturing the unfortunate souls imprisoned within the fortress to extract information or certain possessions of interest to the Dark Lord. He remained in Dol Guldur after Azog led the army towards Erebor, to retrieve Narya (the Ring of Fire) from Gandalf for his master.

The torturer came to where Gandalf was kept, throwing the cage and repeatedly beating him, all the while demanding Narya and knowledge of the whereabouts of the other two Great Elven Rings. When he caught Gandalf having it, he brutally dragged him to a huge stone table, taking a blade to cut his hand off. Before he could gain the ring he was confronted by Galadriel, who obliterated the relentless fiend.

Behind the Scenes[]

This Orc, played by Conan Stevens in two of the three Hobbit films, was the original design for Bolg but was scrapped. It was also known to be the design for Azog at one point.

Weapons[]

Mace - The Orc wields an impressive mace, very similar to Bolg's bone. (this type of weapon seems to be a popular Gundabad chieftain design)
Knife - The Orc uses a deadly Knife.
